We share it in celebration. It comforts us in times of sorrow. In fact, it sustains us.
17.1 percent of Tennessee residents are food insecure according to Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee. Insecure? The mere mention of this word insights feelings of panic and desperation. While I am trying to decide what to cook for dinner, there are people trying to decide if they are going to eat. Thankfully, there are folks working hard to eliminate the issue of hunger. Last year alone, Second Harvest distributed nearly 24 million pounds of food including 7.5 million pounds of groceries to families in need through a Second Harvest program called Middle Tennessee’s Table. This program’s signature fundraising event is coming up Thursday and it’s one of my favorites!
Generous Helpings happens on Thursday, May 15 at 6:00 p.m. at Nashville’s Farmers’ Market. Presented by Kroger and sponsored by Nashville Originals, this annual food and beverage tasting event will feature more than 30 of Nashville’s best independent restaurants showcasing tastings of signature appetizers, entrees and desserts, with fine wines and craft beers. Advanced tickets are $50 or $60 at the door. For more details on the event and ticket purchasing please click here.
Volunteering is an excellent way to be a part of the solution. Click here for a complete list of volunteer opportunities. I have really enjoyed volunteering in the Second Harvest kitchen. In fact, follow me on Instagram or Twitter Thursday afternoon as I will be in the kitchen helping them prepare for Generous Helpings.
